Recently I was being given a talking to for forgetting to include some important names on an email at work. During my managers little speech she used the phrase “think outside the box”, that’s about all I heard to be honest. Reason this stuck out was because I’ve heard it from her before and a few others in recent events and I’m starting to feel that they don’t really know what it means.
Thinking outside the box means looking beyond the little square that you’re trapped in, it means to think differently, unconventionally, from another or new perspective. Kind of a strong statement to just kind of throw around don’t you think?
When do you think outside of the box? Usually when you’re faced with a decision that you don’t come across every day, for example: You been stuck at a 9-5 job for 10 years of your life and it’s slowly draining your soul. You been wanting to do something different with your life but have no idea where to begin or even how to begin. You don’t know anything else beyond working 8 hours and getting a paycheck every other week.
To get out of that situation is going to require some thinking outside of the box. Forgetting to put someone on an email does not.
