Why are we the way we are? Why do we do the things that we do? We know what it is we need to do, but why aren’t we taking action? Just some of the questions I’ve been asking myself for quite some time now.
At some point or another you’re going to be unhappy, I don’t know with what, but it’ll happen. A job, a bad habit, your health, whatever. But when you become unhappy about it, what do you do? You decide to change, you know exactly what you need to do. If it’s for health you know what you shouldn’t be eating, if it’s controlling finances you know what you shouldn’t be spending. It’s just that simple, you just know the solutions to your problems. But in this modern age we have a tendency to dive into this rabbit hole of information, reading other people’s opinions, picking the best diets and routines. We think of the person we will become and our vision seems sunny, happy, and beautiful.
But then the next day comes around, and you’re back in the real world. All your problems still exist, you’re still you, nothing has changed and that vision in your head that you were excited about yesterday isn’t even enough to get you to move your body. The day starts passing by, you’ve made no changes, things start seeming gray, and you’re right back to being who you’ve always been.
Don’t you wish there was just some magic button you can hit and you’d just DO all the things that you know you fucking should be doing?! I know I do. But no such button exists, and we just walk around day dreaming about the life that’s within our reach. Why aren’t we doing the things we know we should be doing? You know why? Because it just fucking sucks. Plain and simple. Doing things just fucking suck sometimes. You know want to lose weight? Guess what? It sucks to run on a treadmill, you get tired, you get sweaty, your legs hurt, and it just sucks! You want to start a business you say? The idea of it sounds great! You see yourself shuffling papers, telling people what to do, making a shit ton of money, looking at the figures. The vision of it sounds great doesn’t it? But in reality it’s going to SUCK! It’s going to be a shit ton of work, you’re going to have to do so many things you don’t want to, you’re not going to making any money yet. It’s not going to be fun.
When we imagine these magnificent visions of ourselves doing the things we truly want to be doing, or living the life we truly want to be living, what are envisioning really? We’re envisioning the result, and not the process. We’re stuck with the image of people smiling upon us, congratulating us, driving in a Lamborghini, living in a big house, but we don’t imagine the process do we? Nope. Have you ever heard a smoker say he’s looking forward to the process of quitting cigarettes? The withdrawals? The irritability? No! They’re more likely to say something that will be result of quitting smoking such as being able to play with their children or something.
I’m not saying envisioning the result of your goal or dream is a bad thing, in fact it’s a great thing! If you can see yourself doing what you want to be doing then that’s exactly what you should be doing. However I am saying the process of reaching that result is going to painful and it’s going to suck, but ultimately that is what you will fall in love with. The pain.
We’re all on different paths to success, but somewhere along the way we will meet. No matter the size of the dream or goal, the foundation will always be the same. Start with yourself, take inventory of yourself, and accept yourself. Become conscience about the changes you must make your in life and realize it’s going to suck, it’ll be painful, and at times you will fail. Slowly you’ll start realizing the whole point to this journey and it’ll start making sense. As that’s happening, you’re becoming the result of your vision.
